Many cells cultured in scaffold-free systems spontaneously form spheroidal aggregates. The resulting in vitro 3D models recapitulate in vivo features such as cell-cell interactions, cell polarity, anchorage independent growth, as well as hypoxia and metabolic gradients in the case of tumor spheroids. Fluofarma has developed dedicated high-content analysis methodologies to fully investigate the effects of drug candidates at the single-cell level in 3D microtissues.
